Uniform NEET Questions in Regional Languages from 2018: Javadekar
- Prakash Javadekar assured that the centre would prepare uniform NEET question papers in all the vernacular languages from 2018.
- All the regional language question papers will be a mere translation of English medium question paper.
Responding to the complaints raised by Education Minister of West Bengal regarding the tougher questions in NEET regional language question papers, Union Minister of Human Resource and Development, Prakash Javadekar assured that the centre will direct CBSE to prepare uniform NEET question papers in all the vernacular languages from 2018. All the regional language question papers will be a mere translation of English medium question paper. He further indicated that security-related issues, large number of applicants and involvement of many languages in NEET 2017 forced CBSE to prepare different sets of question papers.

Speaking about the single engineering entrance examination, he clarified that the final decision has not been taken yet. The proposal for the same is under review at present.
Javadekar also assured that the centre would soon introduce a detention policy for students in Class 5 and 8. Javadekar pointed that 25 states had already given consent for the proposal.

This year, numerous aspirants who appeared for NEET-UG examination in regional languages complained that the questions in regional papers were tougher than English medium question paper. Particularly, students from West Bengal and Gujarat raised complaints regarding the difficulty level of questions. Students from Gujarat also demanded a separate merit list for the regional language students.
NEET-UG 2017 counselling process has already commenced in various states. The academic session for the first year students will begin on August 1, 2017. The cut-off date for all the states to complete the counselling process is August 31, 2017. However, MCC sought the extension of NEET counselling dates but no decision has been taken yet in this regard.
