Union Cabinet Approves AIIMS in Jharkhand’s Deoghar
- AIIMS Deoghar will be set up at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,103 crore.
- The medical college will offer 100 seats in MBBS course and 60 seats in B.Sc Nursing course.
On May 16, 2018, the Union Cabinet approved a proposal to set up All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Deoghar – Jharkhand. The national-level premier medical institute will be set up under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. The estimated cost for setting up AIIMS at Deoghar is Rs. 1,103 crore.
As per the proposed plan, AIIMS at Deoghar will have a hospital with a capacity of 750 beds and trauma centre facilities. The medical college will offer 100 seats in MBBS course. Apart from MBBS, AIIMS Deoghar will also offer B.Sc Nursing course with an intake of 60 students.

AIIMS Deoghar will also have residential complexes and allied services & facilities. The campus of the premier medical institute will be on the lines of AIIMS Delhi.
Apart from the above, AIIMS Deoghar will comprise of 20 super specialty departments including an AYUSH department and 15 operation theatres. The AYUSH department will have 30 beds and will play a significant role in promoting the traditional system of medicine. The department will have all the necessary facilities for imparting knowledge about the traditional system of medicine.
The new AIIMS at Deoghar will play a dominant role in promoting the quality healthcare services in the region.

The construction of AIIMS in Mangalagiri, Kalyani, Gorakhpur and Bareli are underway. AIIMS Mangalagiri will start functioning in a temporary campus from this academic session, i.e., 2018-19.
