Major Highlights of Union Education Budget 2021-22

The major highlights of Union Education Budget 2021-22 are as follows:

• It is for the very first time the budget will be delievred in paperless form.
• 4 National Institutes of Biology to be established.
• Another important aspect of Education Budget this year will be to focus on Research and Development, government will collaborate with many countries to maintain research ecoystem. To begin with, collaboration with Japan for sharing of technology and knowledge is already on its way.
• Establishment of Higher Education Commission. The comission will be responsible for the accreditation and regular funding of the Colleges and Universities.
• Skill development is an imprtant highlight of Union Education Budget 2021-22.Realigning of apprenticeship for students from Diploma in Engineering gets an allocated fund of Rs. 3000 crore. Government will collaborate with UAE for skill development and deployment on successful completion of courses.
• For the effective implementation of National Education Policy, 15000 schools will be strengthened initially. These schools will mentor and work as a model for the NEP implementation across the country.
• 100 new Sainik schools to be established.
• Rs.35, 219 crore over 6 years to benefit SCT/students.
• Central University to be established in Leh.
• Under Education Budget 2021, government will establish 750 Ekalavya residential schools in the Tribal Areas. The fund allocated for the same is Rs. 20 crore and for Hilly areas, it is Rs. 48 crore. A total of Rs. 35219 crore is allocated for the welfare of SC students for 6 years till 2026.

Here are some of the major highlights of Union Education Budget 2020-21

• Top 100 educational institutes in India will offer full-fledged online degree programmes.
• Degree level full-fledged online education will be offered for giving quality education to the students from the deprived sections and those who don't have access to higher education. But this will only be offered by institutes which are within the top 100 in the NIRF.
• Special bridge courses will be there designed for nurses, teachers, para medical staff, caregivers.
• Proposal to attach medical colleges with district hospitals on PPP model to handle shortage of doctors.
• 150 higher educational institutes to begin apprenticeship embedded degree/diploma courses by March 2021. And will also begin a programme wherein urban local bodies across India would offer internship opportunities to fresh engineers for one year.
• For building infrastructure in the education sector, measures would be taken for sourcing External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) and FDI to deliver higher quality education.
• Under the 'Study in India' programme, Ind-SAT, to take place in Asian and African countries to benchmark foreign students who get scholarships for studying in Indian higher education centres. A National Police University and a National Forensic Science University proposed to be set up.

The Finance Minister also added that the education system is in need of a greater inflow of finance in order to attract talented teachers, and also for innovation and building better labs.
