Universities Must Publish Details of Ph.D. Scholars Within Two Months: UGC

The Universities Grants Commission (UGC) has clarified that universities must publish the details of Ph.D. scholars on their respective websites within two months. UGC further pointed that most of the varsities did not follow the directive of UGC in 2016 regarding maintenance of the record of Ph.D. scholars.

Therefore, UGC has sent a letter to all the universities and has sought the response from varsities that have not submitted the details of Ph.D. scholars. UGC has fixed a deadline for these varsities to update the details of Ph.D. scholars on the websites. These universities have to send UGC a link to the published names in a mail within two months.

The UGC further decided to maintain a list of defaulting universities on the website of UGC. The varsities must submit the details of Ph.D. scholars that include names of supervisors and students, Aadhaar number, research topic, details of fellowship, date of completion and Ph.D. mode.

Recently, UGC has also suggested scrapping the temporary and ad-hoc appointments of teachers in all the universities across India. The Pay Review Committee of University Grants Commission is of the view that the teachers should be paid as per Seventh Pay Commission.

However, the recommendations have to be approved by the Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development. If HRD Ministry approves the recommendations, the salary of the teachers will be hiked marginally. Most of the teachers hailed the decision of University Grants Commission, as the move will discontinue the temporary postings.
