Universities Plan to Invite Foreign Faculty after Receiving Autonomy Status
- The status of full autonomy will provide varsities with an opportunity to hire foreign faculty.
- It will also help them to achieve global recognition and flexibility to take independent decisions.
Various leading universities of the country such as Osmania University - OU, English and Foreign Languages University - EFLU and the University of Hyderabad have been granted autonomy by University Grants Commission (UGC).
These varsities are planning to invite foreign faculty from across the globe to their respective campuses. As per the university officials, the grant of autonomy will not only market the universities but will also attract well-known faculty from the world. The University of Hyderabad and English Foreign Languages University are the only two universities from south India who have been granted full autonomy. Apart from these 60 universities across the country have been granted autonomy.

As per Suresh Kumar E, Vice Chancellor, EFLU, this will provide them with an opportunity to hire native speakers for all the foreign languages courses offered by the institute. They are planning to also start a University Finishing School very soon which will offer skill-based training to students.
At OU as well, authorities are going to introduce a number of initiatives as the autonomy status will provide the university with the flexibility to hire foreign faculty and introduce new policies without any hindrance.

Appa Rao Podile, UoH Vice-Chancellor, said that this recognition will help the varsity to achieve global recognition and excellence in education. The status will provide them with the freedom to introduce new courses, provide more resources and start new competitive academic programmes and attract academic talent.
