University of Hyderabad to Launch Online Courses on IT Platform SWAYAM

With an objective to promote open educational resources, the e-learning centre of the University of Hyderabad will develop online courses. The varsity will make these online courses available on the information technology platform SWAYAM. Recently, UoH adopted ‘Online Education Policy’, and became the first central university in India to take ahead such kind of a policy. Apparao Podile, Vice-Chancellor of UoH revealed that the varsity has set up an E-Learning centre through this policy.

The primary objective of the E-Learning centre of the varsity is to implement and promote the online courses designed by the teachers of UoH. The centre will also provide training to teachers to developing e-content by using various resources. The centre is equipped with video conferencing room and virtual classrooms.

The E-Learning centre of UoH will also play a significant role in developing online courses on the SWAYAM platform. The centre will give more emphasis to capacity building programmes or courses for both students and teachers.

The University of Hyderabad has set up E-Learning centre as a part of its E-QUAL project. The imitative can be termed as a continuation of this project. E-QUAL is a European Union Funded International collaborative Project. The Union has committed to fund around one million Euros until May 2017.

Faculty Coordinator of India-EU project, Prof. J. Prabhakar Rao revealed that UoH worked on Sustainable Development, Natural Resources and Environment and developed 44 modules. All these modules or lectures are available on the official website of E-QUAL.

The VC of UoH clarified that the varsity will follow the UGC guidelines, and make 20% of regular courses available online.
