University of Hyderabad (UoH) Academic Council to Form SWARG
University of Hyderabad academic council has agreed on the proposal for SWARG which is a funding initiative that will be used for the purpose of granting the first category graded autonomy by the UGC.
In order to acquire the first category autonomy declared by UGC (University Grants Commission), the Hyderabad University has initiated a plan that will maintain the core essence comprising of social justice, affordable education and equity considering the needy and deserving candidates. The change is a want for the university as it will help in taking the academic characteristics to another level.
Further, to adhere to the aim, the academic council of the University of Hyderabad agreed to form SWARG that stands for Student, Welfare, Academic and Research Grant, which will actually work as a fund. Along with SWARG, the varsity also demanded incentives for extracting high-end faculties through quick promotions, provisions for introduction of new posts for the teaching staff and financial awards or scholarships.

Additionally generated revenues will be used for funding SWARG as well as the new initiated proposal of the University. While detailing out the highlights of the proposal at the meeting of the academic council, Appa Rao Podile, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, said that the initiatives for the first-grade autonomy offered by UGC will not affect the promotional positions of associate and assistant professors as prescribed by the guidelines of the University Grants Commission.

Adding to his statement, Mr Appa also emphasized on not changing the academic fees of all the offered courses in the University. He also added that there would be some amount of incentives given for the research work of higher standards done by the varsity’s faculty as a notion to award the excellence of the faculty members.
