Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK), will soon start Korean language courses to facilitate student exchange programmes and explore employment opportunities in South Korea, informs vice-chancellor Devanand Shinde.
"For that a five-member committee comprising senior SUK authorities had visited South Korea in the first week of February under the Technology Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP), sponsored by the union ministry of human resource development," said Shinde.
The committee, lead by Shinde, had visited Dongguk University, Hanyang University, Seoul National University, Chonnam National University, and Konkuk University. SUK and these five universities also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will play an important role in facilitating easy student and faculty exchange programmes, discussion of academics and joint research projects between the universities.
"Several scholars from Shivaji University are pursuing research projects in South Korea and it has come up as an important destination for students. It was observed during their visit that a Korean language course can prove useful for visiting students and research scholars," said Shinde.
"We met many SUK alumni at the five universities who also suggested that courses related to Korean could be taught at the SUK campus. They said that this will facilitate employment opportunities in South Korea," he added.
