UP Board 2022-23 Exam Pattern Changed: Check New Exam Scheme for Classes 9 and 10
The students of Classes 10 and 12 who are affiliated to the Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (UPSEB) will be appearing for their Pre-Board examinations from February 1 - 15, 2023. Check the schedule and the new exam pattern that will be followed for classes 9 and 10 from next year onwards.
The academic calendar for the UP Board exams for Classes 9 to 12 has been released by the UPSEB already. The half-yearly examinations for students belonging to classes 9 and 11 will be held from February 16, 2023, to February 28, 2023. For the students belonging to Classes 10 and 12, the Board examinations will be held in March 2023. The exact dates will be disclosed soon. The practical examinations, if applicable, on the other hand, will be conducted for Classes 10 and 12 between February 16, 2023, to February 28, 2023.
Meanwhile, the UPSEB has proposed certain changes in the exam pattern for classes 9 and 10. The new exam pattern has been prepared keeping in mind the suggestions put forward by the National Education Policy (NEP).

Highlights of UP Board Class 9 & 10 New Exam Pattern 2023
Here are some of the major highlights of UP Board Class 9 & 10 exam pattern 2023
- The new exam pattern for UP Board students is according to the recommendations of the NEP. The question paper for Classes 9 and 10 will now be divided into two sections. Section 1 will have 30% weightage and it will be dedicated to MCQ type questions which will have to be answered on an OMR sheet.
- Section 2 on the other hand will have 70% weightage and will be completely descriptive in nature.
- This evaluation process will provide a holistic development of the student and will come in handy when it comes to competitive exams later on.
- For the continuous evaluation of the students, 5 monthly tests have also been planned by the UP Board. Out of these, three will be MCQ or multiple-choice format questions while two will be descriptive in nature.
- Gulab Devi, Secondary Education Minister for UP has also stated that the academic calendar will be uploaded soon on the official website. Moreover, other than mere academics, students will also have to discuss and express their opinions on relevant social issues such as traffic, pollution, human rights, patriotism, character building, patriotism, the life of great people and so on.
- All schools have been advised to complete the syllabus by January 20, 2023. New career counselling sessions have also been planned alongside the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ that will try to decrease the dropout rate in higher secondary education in Uttar Pradesh.
