UP Board to Introduce Vedic Maths in School Curriculum
- UP Board will introduce ‘Vedic Maths’ as an optional subject for Class 9 to Class 12 students.
- The textbooks on Vedic Maths have been named as ‘Bharat Ka Paramparagat Ganit Gyan’.
Earlier this week, the Government of Uttar Pradesh approved the proposal of UP Board to introduce ‘Vedic Maths’ as an optional subject for Class 9 to Class 12 students. The new optional subject will be introduced from the next academic session 2018-19. With an objective to enable the students to have an in-depth understanding of traditional mathematics and its vital contribution to mankind, UP Board has come up with the idea of introducing Vedic Maths in the school curriculum.
UP Board will not conduct examination for Vedic Maths subject. The syllabus of the course has been finalised, and the textbooks will be sent for printing soon. The textbooks about Vedic Maths have been named as ‘Bharat Ka Paramparagat Ganit Gyan’.

The students who choose Vedic Maths as an optional subject will be exposed to life and significant contributions of legendary Indian mathematicians Varahamihira and Aryabhatta. The subject will also include all details about the inclusion of ‘Zero’, and the way Indian traditional mathematics contributed to the development of different branches of mathematics including trigonometry, geometry, algebra etc. Students will also be taught traditional methods of subtracting, counting, division and multiplication.

The subject of Vedic Maths will also enable students to understand the relevance of traditional mathematics in modern day science. The new optional subject will also help students prepare for entrance exams effectively. The new subject will improve the mathematical skills of students in traditional perspective.
