UP Institute of Design to Introduce New Design Courses by 2019

U.P. Government has undertaken an initiative to introduce full-time courses in the U.P. Institute of Design by the year 2019. The initiative has been taken as a remedial solution for the upliftment of most artisans and indigenous workers who are juggling with deep poverty. Kshipra Shukla, Chairperson of the UP Institute of Design, said that as of now various certificate courses are functional in the institute that are a part of the small, micro, and medium industries.

Under the initiative, the institute will offer different graduate courses, postgraduate degrees and other enhanced courses like post graduate diploma and short-term entrepreneur courses with an objective to help artisans get professional training on how to start their own businesses. The main aim of the introduction of such courses is to make artisans job-ready and provide them with knowledge of marketing and designing of their products.

UPID, in next five years, plans to conduct entrance examinations for admissions to the institute so that it can come at par with other renowned design institutes like NIFT - National Institute of Fashion Technology and NID - National Institute of Design.

The institute is further planning to organize an event where the local artisans can interact with other artisans who have been awarded on national or state-level and can share their journeys, experiences, and achievements.

They also plan to start international exchange programmes where the artisans can have interactive sessions with the artisans of other countries.

UP Institute of Design is also planning to offer students help in forming their own start-up and market their products online. UPID wants to make every local artist self-sufficient and their work accessible to all rural areas in the state.
