In a major revamp, the UPPSC (Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission) makes the selection process of PCS (Provincial Civil Services) Examination more stringent. The commission has made a lot of major changes from exam pattern to interview to the reservation.

Changes Made in PCS Exam by UPPSC

Here are the changes that have been made by UPPSC. It is important that PSC aspirants go through the changes thoroughly and understand them for future purposes.

  • Removal of 5 Subjects From PCS Mains:The commission has removed five subjects from the list of optional subjects for PCS Mains Examination. The subjects that are not available for PCS Mains anymore are Arabic, Social Science, Persian, Defence and Agricultural Technology.

  • Less Number of Seats for PSC Mains: UPPSC has reduced the seats for PCS Mains from 18 candidates to 13 candidates. This means that after PCS Prelims, only 13 candidates will be competing for one post instead of 18 candidates.

  • Less Number of Candidates in the Interview Round: Earlier, three candidates used to compete for a post in the interview round for PCS examination. The number of candidates has now been reduced to 2.

  • Additional Quota: The Public Service Commission of Uttar Pradesh has now implemented 10 per cent quota for economically weaker sections of the society.

The commission released the official notification for the PCS 2019 (Preliminary) examination. The examination is scheduled to be held in the month of December, this year. The revised pattern of the examination is similar to that of the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission).

The decision of revamping the examination came as a shocker to the PCS aspirants who were preparing for the subjects that are now removed from the list of optional subjects. Talking to a media house, Jagdish Prasad, UPPSC Secretary said that the subjects like Arabic and Persian were inessential as not even a single candidate had opted for the subjects in the past 5 years.

The changes were made with the aim to provide relief to the candidates who are preparing for both Civil Services Exams and PCS Examination. Now, whether these changes prove to be helpful to PCS aspirants or make it even difficult for them to reach their goal, that only time will tell.

Till then, stay tuned to CollegeDekho.
