UPPSC PCS Prelims Exam in One Day One Shift: Declares commission secretary, releases official notice
UPPSC PCS Prelims Exam 2024 will be conducted in One Day One Shift, announced the Commission Secretary. Earlier, aspirants had launched a massive protest against conducting the examinations on different days and in different shifts.
UPPSC PCS Prelims Exam in One Day One Shift: In response to widespread student protests, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has agreed to the students’ demand to conduct the UPPSC PCS Prelims Examination 2024 in a single day. The decision was announced on November 14, 2024, following intervention from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who took cognizance of the issue and directed UPPSC to address the concerns of the aspirants.
Thousands of candidates have gathered in protest outside the UP Public Service Commission’s headquarters in Prayagraj, opposing its decision to conduct recruitment exams over multiple shifts and implement normalisation methods for evaluation. Many youths were seen holding placards with slogans such as "one day, one shift" and "no normalisation." The decision has sparked significant unrest, with nearly 10,000 students joining the protest in Prayagraj. Students argue that conducting exams in multiple shifts could lead to unfair score adjustments through normalisation, potentially disadvantaging some candidates.
While students are happy with the postponement of the PCS exam, they demand clarity on the dates for the PCS and RO/ARO exams, and the number of shifts for both. “Earlier, the commission proposed to take the exam over two days, but now, the UP PCS pre-2024 will be conducted in one day, just like it used to be before,” read the notification in Hindi.
The UP civil services exams were initially scheduled for December 7 and 8, while the RO/ARO recruitment exams were set to take place on December 22 and 23 across three shifts. The commission recently announced that these exams would be conducted in multiple shifts, citing an insufficient number of examination centres to accommodate all aspirants in a single sitting. Additionally, UPPSC notified candidates that a normalisation process would be used to adjust scores for the objective-type exams held over different shifts, aiming to account for any variation in test difficulty.
