UPPSC Drops Typing Skill Test, Introduces Computers
In a move to catch up with the modern times, UPPSC drops typing skill test and has decided to introduce computers in place of typewriters. Typewriters (typing test) were a part of the skill set for candidates seeking government jobs in UP.
The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, known as UPPSC has now officially dropped the Typing test. To be updated with the modern requirement of time, UPPSC examination authority has decided to introduce computers in place of typewriters.
Some suggest that the realisation to outdated typewriters came pretty late as the main offices of UPPSC themselves do not use typewriters for a long time. The first recruitment exam post this decision in the Uttar Pradesh will be the Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer Recruitment Exam-2017.
The decision to drop the typing test came when the commission is almost completing the recruitment process for Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer Recruitment Exam-2017. The exam will be conducted to fill up 809 vacant posts. It will also be helping the commission itself to fill vacant posts existing in its offices as well.
The official notice from UPPSC informed that the dates and venues of the RO/ARO 2017 exams will be notified in a separate notification shortly. Mr. Jagadish, who is the secretary of UPPSC said while confirming the move that previously, students had to bring typewriters with themselves which caused a lot of inconveniences. Also, this not only inconvenienced the candidates but even the relevance of the typing test was little as state government department/offices use computers instead of typewriters.
Mr Jagadish said that it was unnecessary to amend the UPPSC Examination guidelines as it had provisions to use typewriters and computers both according to the candidate’s convenience. To implement this change, UPPSC chairman Prabhat Kumar’s orders are counted as enough.

Mr. Jagadish also confirmed that the candidates will be relived from bringing their gadgets as the commission itself will arrange for the computers. The commission is selecting the centers for the skill test keeping in mind the availability of computer-based test infrastructure.
