UPSC CDS 2022 English paper was held on April 10, 2022. The exam was conducted in the offline (pen & paper) mode. The UPSC CDS 2022 exam is conducted in two phases: Phase 1 is a written test and Phase 2 is a personal interview. The medium of the paper is English. The total duration of the exam is 120 minutes. There were subjective-type questions in the paper. The English paper was conducted for a total of 100 marks for 120 questions in total. For each correct answer, 0.83 mark will be awarded and for an incorrect answer, 1/3rd mark will be deducted.

The first reaction of the candidates to UPSC CDS 1 English Paper is given below:
- The overall difficulty level of the examination was similar to the CDS 2 exam conducted last year. The paper was found to be of easy to moderate difficulty level.
- Most of the sections were easy, especially synonyms, antonyms, and reading comprehension.
- None of the questions were especially time-consuming although spotting errors, ordering of sentences, and reading comprehension were somewhat lengthier than the rest.
- The expected average number of good attempts would be 70+.
