The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the schedule for the Civil Services Mains Examination, 2017. The written exam will be conducted from October 28 and will continue until November 3, 2017. The first paper i.e. Essay will be conducted on October 28 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The time table was released on Thursday, August 11, 2017, on the official website of UPSC. Candidates who have successfully cleared the Civil Services preliminary exam will be eligible to appear for the Main exam.

The result for the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary exam was declared on July 27, 2017. Candidates will have to fill the application for UPSC Civil Services Mains 2017 before August 31, 2017, in order to appear for the exam.

After the announcement of the result for the prelims exam, a candidate had filed a petition in the Supreme Court saying that the 10 to 12 questions asked in the exam had conflicting answers. Due to this, the candidates were not able to give the correct answers.

The petitioner stated that the standard of the UPSC Civil Services exam is falling with each year as the preliminary exam comprises more questions from current affairs, similar to the format of clerical exams. The Court issued no formal notice regarding this.

The Civil Services exam is held in two phases, namely the Preliminary or objective type exam, the Main Exam that is held in written format and basis which candidates are called for interviews.
