UPSC to Accept Different Versions of Answers in the Essay Paper for Civil Services Mains Exam 2016
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has agreed to accept different versions of Essay Paper answers for the Main examination in Civil Services Examination, 2016.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has agreed to accept different versions of Essay Paper answers for the Main Examination in Civil Services Examination, 2016. The exam was conducted on December 3, 2016.
The essay test paper carried 125 marks but the framing of the proposition in Hindi and English causes confusion for the candidates appearing in the examination.

V Vaithilingam, Speaker of Puducherry Legislative Assembly, has written to the UPSC for a compassionate evaluation of the essay paper. Before that, several candidates had also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Commission's members on the issue.
The Speaker said that lots of candidates hailing from diverse background and languages appear in the exam. So in such a situation, it would be injustice to these candidates whose fate depends on such a question with a high mark, if evaluation is not done judiciously. Aspirants appearing for writing the tests in English language did not interpret “engendered" as associated with gender equality.

Controller of Examination and Additional Secretary of UPSC replying to the queries, said that the matter has been closely examined by the Commission in consultation with experts of the examination. The Commission has accepted the fact that there could be different explanations of the term engendered. The different acceptable explanations will be considered valid during evaluation. The Civil Services (Main) Examinations conducted by UPSC held from December 3 to 9, 2016.
Despite securing high marks in optional subjects, lots of candidates cannot succeed in UPSC exam due to ignorance of the importance of essay. Students appearing for the exam must practice writing the essay from different current affairs topics.
