In a written reply to the upper house (Rajya Sabha), Minister of State for Personnel, Jitendra Singh said that all the recommendations made by the Baswan committee regarding the pattern of civil service examination as well as candidates’ age limit are being processed by the UPSC. He further added that UPSC is yet to submit its response regarding the recommendations made by the Baswan committee report.

In August 2015, the UPSC had set up the expert committee that was led by former Human Resource Development Secretary and retired IAS officer BS Baswan. The committee was appointed to revise the scheme of civil service examination and give their suggestions regarding the same.

Officials from the committee have said that suggestions have been made to reduce the upper age limit to appear for the exam that is currently 32 years.
