Uttarakhand Residental University Gets New VC
Governor of Uttarakhand, Mr. K K Paul has appointed Prof. H S Dhami as the Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Residential University (URU).
Governor of Uttarakhand, Mr. K K Paul has appointed Prof. H S Dhami as the Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Residential University (URU). Previously, he served as the Vice Chancellor of Kumaun University. Uttarakhand Residential University is located in Almora.
Currently, Nageshwar Rao, VC of Uttarakhand Open University has been given additional charge of Kumaun University until the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor.

Uttarakhand Residential University has been designed on the lines of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. The varsity has been established to cater to the level of advanced higher studies. It is the second residential university at Almora. Students from Dehradun and Almora are pursuing higher education at this university. The university was approved in the year 2015. A sum of Rs. 10 crores was allocated by the State Education Department for the construction of buildings in the university campus in the year 2015.
URU has been developed as per norms of University Grants Commission (UGC). However, the construction of the varsity is underway which is being carried out in three phases. Pandit Uday Shankar Theatre Academy located at Almora has been merged with URU. The varsity offers various undergraduate courses and the academic year commenced recently. The construction of buildings will be completed by December 2016 or January 2017.
The syllabus prescribed by the URU is on the lines of JNU’s syllabus and curriculum. The officials of State Education Department visited JNU in the year 2015 and conducted a study on curriculum and syllabus of JNU.
