Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University Issues Order for Digital Assessment

Sanjay Deshmukh, the Vice Chancellor of University of Mumbai has issued an order which states that teachers should go for online assessment instead of correcting the answer sheets manually.

In January, Mumbai University had announced that it will evaluate all answer papers through the online mode, at least for the examinations conducted from April 2017 onwards. Over 19.5 lakh answer sheets were proposed to be scanned and assessed on computers with the aim to make the process efficient, and to avoid some of the problems that have been obstructing the system till now.

As the online screen facility is not yet implemented, the officials have requested that the final bid should be made by April 22. As per the order, all kinds of manual assessment will be halted till then. Also, it will take a few more weeks for the teachers to get trained for this process. This has also become one of the prime reasons why the colleges are worried as it will lead to a further delay in the announcement of results. MU has already received much criticism from the institutes as well as students for delaying the results of more than 150 courses by three months. For instance, the delay of almost four months in the TYBMS result had left the students with no time to apply for re-evaluation.

Mumbai University's Controller of Examinations (CoE) said that the university would try and avoid any kind of delay. Mr. Deepak Wasave, in-charge, CoE said that they hope to resume the process at the earliest. He ensured that digital assessment will hasten the evaluation process.
