Vineet Joshi Appointed as Director General of National Testing Agency (NTA)
- Mr. Vineet Joshi has been appointed as the first Director General (DG) of National Testing Agency.
- DG will also be the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NTA.
Last week, the Government of India has confirmed the appointment of Mr. Vineet Joshi as the first Director General (DG) of National Testing Agency (NTA) for a period of five years. An IAS officer of 1992 batch of the Manipur cadre, Mr. Joshi has a wide experience in administering various bodies of government. Department of Personnel and Training has issued an official order regarding the appointment of Mr. Vineet Joshi.

NTA is authorised to conduct entrance exams for higher learning institutes organised by AICTE, CBSE and others. During the budgetary session of the Parliament, Finance Minister of India, Mr. Arun Jaitley announced the setting up of NTA, a self-sustained and autonomous premier testing agency to conduct all the entrance exams.
The Union Cabinet gave its nod for setting up NTA in November 2017. NTA will help and benefit over 40 lakh students appearing for the entrance exams every year. AICTE, CBSE and other organisations/ bodies will be relieved from conducting the entrance exams. On the other hand, NTA will pave the way for a standardized difficulty level for assessing the problem-solving abilities, intelligence and aptitude of the students. Higher reliability in holding entrance exams will be possible only through NTA.

NTA will be headed by an eminent educationist appointed by HRD Ministry. Its Director General will be the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). NTA will also comprise of academic experts, academicians and members who have a broad experience in education sector.
