A meeting will be held on August 23, chaired by HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, where the IIT Council and other stakeholders will discuss the plan. Some of the IITs are among the few Indian institutes that are ranked on the QS and Times list of educational institutes.
However, the ranks given to these institutes are not as upright as they ought to be. Most of them are ranked at 200 and below. Check out the Indian colleges that made it to the QS World University Rankings 2015:
Name of the Institute | QS Rankings |
147 | |
179 | |
202 | |
254 | |
271 | |
281 |
Vishwajeet will probably pick out the IITs that rank below 250. The aim of the project is to pinpoint the parameters where the IIT is lagging behind and plan how to eliminate these shortcomings in a targeted manner. It will also work on the aspects basis which the QS and Times list are prepared to rank the institutions.
The domain where Indian institutes are lagging is the international attention. They need to work on attracting foreign students and teachers in order to raise their academic reputation globally. To resolve this issue the IITs are planning to conduct JEE 2017 for foreign students in different countries. They also aim to set an agenda to introduce a recruitment format that will help them hire young Ph.D. Holders.
