VIT Ventures into Fashion Technology Courses with V-FIT

Vellore Institute of Technology has decided to start offering fashion technology courses in its newly launched VIT Fashion Institute of Technology (V-FIT). The new fashion institute will be started at their Chennai campus. VIT is also in talks to introduce a new university campus in Amaravati on 2017.

V-FIT was inaugurated by the founder of Galfar Engineering and Construction Company, Oman, P. Mohammed Ali. Addressing the gathering at the inauguration ceremony, he said that bright opportunities will be provided by V-FIT to aspiring students. the institute will assist students in learning the science of fashion and model designing all the while upholding the traditional themes of Indian clothing, he added.

Anitha Mabel Manohar, Director of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Chennai, said that fashion industry is a flourishing industry that offers very bright job prospects. Imparting knowledge on the course, she also said that B.Tech in fashion technology will provide design training to students in the field of leather design, accessory design, knitwear design, textile design, technology design and fashion technology.

G. Viswanathan, Chancellor, VIT informed that 200 acres land has been allotted by the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet. Construction at Amaravathi for the new university campus will begin once the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) passes the order.

The management is eager to start developing the campus as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister wishes that the university starts admission in various fields including engineering, medicine, etc., from 2017.

Assistant vice-president of VIT, Kadhambari S. Viswanathan talked about V-FIT and said that the institute will follow a practical approach to provide education to students. She also informed that the institute will comprise of a patent laboratory as well as a resource hub that has been created at a cost of Rs.1.5 crore, she said.
