Some students studying in colleges under the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) have been suffering as they study under the Non - Choice Based Credit System (Non-CBCS). The students have been complaining that they fail their subjects due to lack of parallel classes conducted by the colleges under VTU. The colleges under VTU have been sent a notice from the University ordering them to conduct the parallel classes for the students studying under the Non-CBCS system. However, the colleges have not been following the notice.

Students have been complaining about the problem for the past two years. To combat the issue, Visvesvaray Technological University had started a scheme called One-Exit Scheme, which could be availed by the students studying in the Non-CBCS system. The One-Exit scheme was basically brought in to help those students could clear the backlog of papers. This was brought in since the University had introduced the new scheme of the syllabus in the form of a Choice Based Credit System.

Some of the students from the old scheme have been complaining that the colleges have been ‘ignoring’ them. One of the students’ stated that he had been facing the issue for over a year. He further added that the college has denied them from taking classes and have told them to sit in the library. The colleges have even given them attendance for not attending the classes.

The parallel classes that the students have been talking about are mainly conducted for the non-CBCS students as well as common classes for common subjects with the new scheme. The Registrar of Visvesvaraya Technological University, HN Jagannatha Reddy has commented regarding the issue, stating that the students must approach the University first and inform them about the mal-practices that are taking place in the colleges. He further added that if the students are not being provided parallel classes from the college, then the college will conduct an investigation as well as provide another notice for the same.

When the students voiced their opinion on the removal of the critical year back for Non-CBCS scheme, the registrar replied that the critical year back system for the non-CBCS scheme cannot be removed as it is important for keeping the quality of education at the University. He also stated that it was decided by the student to choose the old-scheme instead of the CBCS scheme. Therefore, the students will have to work even harder to achieve their goals. He further reassured the students that if there is a mistake on behalf of the college then action will be taken for the same. He has also asked the students to provide VTU with the names of the colleges that have denied the students from attending classes.
