Calcutta HC First Hearing on NEET 2024 Marks: On 7 June 2024, the High Court Calcutta heard the matter on the irregularities in the NEET UG Exam and the Marks awarded to the candidates (Tanmoy Chattopadhyay vs NTA). As per the hearing update, the petitioner argued that some candidates accomplished 218 to 219 marks in the NEET exam 2024, which was not possible as per the NTA marking scheme. The bench led by Justice Kaushik Chanda and Justice Apurba Singh Ray took into consideration the fact that such marks were provided based on the decision of the Supreme Court in Akshat Aggarwal and Others vs Union of India and Others (Petition number 600 of 2018).

The High Court of Calcutta has asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to respond to the allegation by filling proper affidavits within ten days. Justice Kaushik Chanda and Justice Apurba Singh Ray have also asked the NTA to include the reservation policy details of the state and central government followed during the preparation of the NEET merit list 2024. The court will be hearing the matter after two weeks. NTA needs to preserve the required records related to the NEET UG 2024 within the stipulated time. The Court has asked the NTA to hold the counselling process until the court order.
