Float after JoSAA Seat Allotment 2024: After each round of seat allotment, students who were allotted a seat have to report online to submit their seat acceptance status. Float is one of the three options available for online reporting. What is Float, who can select the Float option, what are the instructions to be followed for selecting Float, and such are discussed on the page below. Do note that it is mandatory to report online for seat-allotted candidates. Failing to do so will be treated as seat rejection.

What is 'Float' after JoSAA Round 2 Seat Allotment 2024?

If a candidate is allotted a seat he/she is not satisfied with and wishes for betterment in upcoming rounds, then such candidate should opt for ‘Float’. The candidate selecting Float temporarily accepts the current seat but is open for higher allocation. Through Float in JoSAA, the candidate can be allotted a different institute as well as a branch, depending on the cutoff rank and vacancies available.

Many students face confusion that if they do not want the currently allotted seat, then they can reject the same and go for a higher allocation. But rejecting a seat means the candidate will become ineligible to appear for any of the subsequent rounds, from Round 1 to 6. Hence, if a change in allocation across institutes and branches is required, then the candidate must opt for ‘Float’.

Instructions for Float in JoSAA Seat Allotment 2024

If willing to opt for the Float option in JoSAA 2024, the following instructions shall be noted:

  • Candidates selecting Float are eligible for the next round counselling.

  • Changes in both ‘Institute’ and ‘Branch’ are applicable under Float, subject to vacancies and cutoff.

  • All candidates who are allotted other than first preference can opt for the Float option in JoSAA counselling.

  • Float option can be selected until Round 4 while in Round 5, only the Freeze option will be available.

  • A candidate selecting Float after JoSAA seat allotment must pay the “Seat Acceptance Fee”. Again to the confusion of students, payment of fee is mandatory for Float, regardless if the candidate is satisfied with the current allocation or not.

  • If the fee is not paid, then it will be considered as rejection of the seat and disqualification from the counselling round will follow.

  • The fee is only to be paid for the first-time allocations. If paid once, the same will be carried out for subsequent rounds if any of the online reporting options are chosen.

  • General, OBC, and EWS candidates shall pay Rs 35,000/- as the seat acceptance fee while SC, ST, and PwD shall pay Rs 17,500/- only.

  • Online payment shall be made via Debit card, Credit card, UPI, Net Banking, or E-Challan.

  • Upload of all required documents is also mandatory for Float candidates.

  • If Float is selected once, it is not mandatory to opt for the same in all subsequent rounds. If the candidate is satisfied with later allocation, he/she may Freeze or Slide the seat.

  • It is important to answer queries raised by JoSAA officers as failure to do so will result in seat cancellation and disqualification from JoSAA 2024 counselling.

  • Online reporting after each round is mandatory unless Freeze is opted in further rounds.
