Earlier, with the postponement of the release of the GATE 2022 admit card from 7th January to an indefinite period, whispers regarding the postponement of the GATE 2022 exam due to the increasing number of Omicron cases grew. Earlier, the GATE 2022 admit card was supposed to release on 3rd January and then it was pushed back to 7th January. It was for the first time that the admit card release schedule for a major examination such as GATE had been deferred twice within a few days which had led many to conjecture that there is a probability that GATE 2022 will be postponed due to the increasing number of Omicron cases in India.
After announcing that the GATE 2022 admit card release has been deferred indefinitely, the officials had marked the GATE 2022 exam dates as tentative. Many experts believed the development as a hint that a new GATE examination schedule was more likely. However, now with the verdict of the Supreme Court of India in favour of IIT Kharagpur, the GATE 2022 exams will take place between 05th and 13th February 2022.
