Will NEET 2023 be Postponed?

NEET UG 2023 Postponement: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has scheduled NEET UG 2023 on May 07, 2023. However, because of the delayed schedule of the previous pandemic-affected year, the result of NEET 2022 was delayed to September instead of the regular June cycle. Thus, conducting NEET UG 2023 in May gives very less preparation time for the repeater students. Moreover, the current batch had their Class 11 studies online, thus making it tougher for them to study the syllabus.

Hence, many students have taken to Twitter to demand one month’s deferment of the examination. The aspirants have also made a fresh appeal to PM Modi regarding the same. But will NTA postpone NEET UG 2023?

Will NEET 2023 be Postponed?

• Before this year, in 2022, both NEET UG and PG students had appealed for the postponement of the exam and subsequently, their cases were also heard in the Supreme Court. In both cases, the NEET examination was NOT postponed.
• This year, even the JEE Main students had asked for the postponement of their January session exam and the case was heard in the Bombay High Court. It was ruled in favour of non-postponement of the exam.
• In addition to it, as conveyed by the Bombay HC judges, the high courts cannot interfere in educational proceedings even if they were to otherwise rule in favour of postponement. Only the Supreme Court reserves the right to do so. Hence, if a case is filed for postponement in any HC, it will not lead to NEET 2023 postponement.
• Time and again, NTA has stated that the academic schedules must be restored to the pre-pandemic timeline and so far, for all exams it conducts, the same has been followed.
• NEET UG 2023 exam date was declared well in advance by mid-December 2022, unlike their JEE counterparts who had far less time between the date declaration and the exam. Even so, both the JEE Main sessions were conducted as per the given schedule.
• Hence, unless under extraordinary circumstances, NEET 2023 exam will not be postponed.
