Will NTA Repeat Previous Years' Questions in JEE Main 2021?
A common doubt among JEE Main 2021 aspirants is whether previous years’ questions get repeated in the 2021 exam. Here is the answer prepared on the basis of the past trends of JEE Main.
Students gearing up to appear for JEE Main 2021 might have a doubt whether NTA repeats previous years’ questions of JEE Main in the 2021 exam. Firstly, students must note that NTA prepares the question paper from a large question bank, and different questions may appear in different shifts. As JEE Main 2021 is going to be conducted four times, it is clear that questions that appeared in one phase will not be repeated in the other phase. However, there will be questions on a similar concept with a change in values. On the other hand, almost 20% of questions from previous years’ question papers are expected to be repeated in the 2021 exam.
In some cases, the questions will be repeated as it is without any change in the values or data. In certain cases, the question will be repeated as per the concept, but the values will be changed. When it comes to referring to the previous years’ question papers, it is better to revise at least the last 7-8 years’ (2013-2020) question papers.
Some of the important points to remember in this regard are –
- In the majority of cases, the concept gets repeated instead of the exact question
- Rarely, the exact question will get repeated without any change in values
- As per trends, 20% of questions/ concepts repeat in JEE Main every year. Therefore, it is advisable to be thorough with the last 7-8 years’ question papers
- Practicing the previous years’ question papers will help you learn the concept effectively
- Practicing old papers will help you understand the mindset of one who sets the question paper
- Questions that appeared in one shift/ phase will not get repeated in another shift/ phase
In all, we can say that learning the concept and practicing it with different examples is important than merely relying on old question papers. The way you understand a question and implement your conceptual knowledge matters when it comes to highly competitive exams like JEE Main.
