Will the JEE Main Cutoff 2023 increase?
Unique registrations for JEE Main 2023 are more compared to the previous year. So is JEE Main Cutoff 2023 expected to increase? Read below to find out!
Will the JEE Main Cutoff 2023 increase? It is a question many students are facing. When compared to the previous year 2022, the number of session 1 registrations for JEE Main 2023 is in the same range but for April session 2, the registrations have gone up by over 3 lakh candidates. Hence, the number of unique registrations is expected to increase as well and if the registrations go up, the cutoffs will increase as well. In contrast to this, if previous trends are observed, JEE Main cutoff percentiles for all categories (except for the open category) are reducing each year.
Taking into consideration these trends, it is mostly sure that JEE Main cut off 2023 for the open category will increase. To quantify, this increase is expected to be by 1 to 3 percentile, thus the general cutoff this year will reach 88 to 90 percentile. However, for all other reserved categories, the cutoff is likely to remain the same as that of the previous year or even decrease furthermore. The expected cutoff changes in numbers and previous trends are listed below.

JEE Main Cutoff Trends: 2022 to 2019
As the result before 2019 was declared in terms of raw marks of the candidates and so was the cutoff, the trends before 2019 are not relevant when considering JEE Main cutoff percentile. The trends from 2019 onwards for all categories are given below:
Category/Year | 2022 | 2021 | 2020 | 2019 |
General/UR | 88.41214 | 87.89922 | 90.37653 | 89.75488 |
Gen-EWS | 63.11141 | 66.22148 | 70.24355 | 78.21749 |
OBC-NCL | 67.00903 | 68.02344 | 72.8888 | 74.31666 |
SC | 43.0821 | 46.88253 | 50.17602 | 54.01282 |
ST | 26.77713 | 34.6729 | 39.06961 | 44.33452 |
As opposed to the minimum cutoff values discussed above, the maximum cutoff for all categories (except the general category) will increase, further reducing the category-wise competition but increasing it for the general students. If a reserved-category student scores above the maximum cutoff, then he/she will be admitted under the general category. The maximum cutoff for the general category is 100 percentile while that for other categories is expected to be about 88 to 90 percentile.
