Namit Makhija a Delhi student, participated in the University of Bath, UK ‘Young India Student of the Year 2018’. While applying to the University of Bath, UK, he was strongly advised by his friend’s mother, education counsellor, to participate in the university’s famous ‘Young India Student of the Year 2018' to enhance his profile and brighten his chances of getting into the University.

Namit took a week to gather his views and write on the topic - Would India benefit from more open-trade for example with the UK? He not only managed to get admission in the University but also bagged the first prize in the essay competition.

HRH Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, University of Bath’s Vice-Chancellor, presented the award to him at an event held in Delhi.

As part of the award, Namit received 3,000 pounds which will constitute his first-year fees at the University of Bath for Humanities and Social Sciences undergraduate programme. The programme starts from Septemeber 2018. He will be pursuing B.Sc (Hons) in International Development along with Economics programme.

After winning the competition Namit stated that the open trade and protectionism is a crucial issue in every economic forum. He also mentioned that while researching for the competition he learned a lot about the subject enhanced his knowledge about the various economic and trade issues.
