STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is a stream which is considered to be dominated by men. However, with the passage of time, many women in India have shown a considerate collaboration and contribution in the field of STEM.

It has been noted that one of the main reasons why there has been lesser interest from women in STEM is due to a lack of women role models in the same field. This calls for a higher contribution of women role models in order to encourage women to take STEM as an option for their higher studies.

Here are some of the top women in India who have excelled in STEM with their contribution and collaboration:
Dr Sujatha Srinivasan, Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, (IIT Madras): Founded the Rehabilitation Research and Device Development with the aim of developing functional and effective assisting tools.
Dr Mudrika Khandelwal, Associate Professor in Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, (IIT Hyderabad): created a lab to develop packaging materials which can keep tomatoes fresh for 30 days.
Dr Aditi Halder, Associate Professor in School of Basic Sciences, (IIT Mandi): Doing her research in the area of storage and energy conversion.
Dr Sharmistha Majumdar, Assistant Professor, Biological Engineering, (IIT Gandhinagar): Doing her research in the field of evolutionary and Mechanistic analysis of eukaryotic mobile genetic elements
Dr Neeldhara Misra, Assistant Professor in Computer Science and Engineering, (IIT Gandhinagar): Doing her research in the field of Parameterized and approximation algorithm design (problems arising in social choice, graph-theoretic problems, satisfiability, etc.).
