Women’s Day Special: Varanasi Girl Quits MNC to Join Indian Army
- Varanasi’s Aparna Rai left her high paying job to join the Indian Army and became an icon this Women’s Day.
- Aparna is an inspiration for women throughout India who are passionate about proving their potential.
In times when the nation is vouching for causes like equal rights for women and education for girls, Aparna Rai has set an example by joining the Indian Army. Aparna is 23 years old and she had quit her job at a US-based company in 2016 to pursue her dream of joining the Indian Army.
She will soon be commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army. The daughter of a businessman and a homemaker, Aparna pursued B.Tech from NIT Srinagar and graduated in 2016 and bagged an excellent job in Chennai. However, she left it all to become an officer in the Indian Army.

Aparna’s news is all the more welcome as it is Women’s Day and she is a source of inspiration for all the girls who want to pursue unconventional career paths. She cleared SSB from Allahabad in her first attempt in 2017 and also secured the second rank in the technical entry list.
She has always been a diligent individual and had also topped class 10 board. She made it to NIT Srinagar through merit in AIEEE (now JEE-Main) in order to pursue engineering. Aparna’s father, Ashok Rai, said that her mother motivated her to join the Indian Army.

Aparna’s parents are proud of her and will be attending her passing out parade at the Officers' Training Academy, Chennai on March 10, 2018. On this Women’s Day, Aparna has become the beacon of hope for women who dream big and want to leave a lasting impact on the society.
