Workshop on ‘Growth and Development of Languages in North-Eastern Region’ Concludes In Guwahati

A three-day workshop on ‘Growth and Development of Languages in North-Eastern Region’ was organised by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) New Delhi here in Guwahati on Tuesday, May 17, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Language (IIL).

The workshop was attended by many dignitaries from all over the North-East. Inaugurated by Governer PB Acharya, the workshop was a huge success. The North-East India is said to be the home of a very large number of languages like Assamese, Bengali, Bodo/Bodo, Manipuri, Khasi, Tripuri, Nepali, Nagamese, Dimasa, Hindi, Rabha, Bishnupriya, Tangkhul and many more. The youth community in this region is better equipped with English language.

In his inaugural speech, Acharya stressed on giving importance to the growth and development of our regional language. He also said that we should prepare a road map to strengthen the languages of the north-eastern region.

Some of the guests who attended this three-day event were NIOS Chairman Prof CB Sharma, IIL Director Dr Awadesh Kumar Mishra and Atul Kothari, Secretary, Education and Cultural Development Society, New Delhi who encouraged the promotion of education for development of regional languages. Participants came from all over the northeast states including Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, Assam etc.
