List of Documents Required for UPSC Exam Application Form 2024
Candidates who are planning to appear for the UPSC CSE exam, especially, first time test takers often ask what are the documents required for applying UPSC exam. Aspirants must provide all the documents required to fill UPSC form to successfully complete the registration process. Take a look at the UPSC documents required for different stages of the examination mentioned below.
Documents Required for UPSC Prelims Exam 2024
Aspirants do not need to send documents to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) physically when registering for the UPSC Prelims exam. However, candidates must upload the required documents online during the registration process. The documents required for UPSC prelims exam 2024 are as follows:
- A recent scanned copy of the photograph
- A scanned copy of the signature

Any government-issued Photo ID card like:
- Aadhaar Card
- Driving Licence
- PAN Card
- Passport
- Voter Card
- Any other Photo ID Card issued by the State/Central Government.
According to the latest UPSC guidelines, the information on the government-issued photo ID will have to be provided while filling out the UPSC 2024 application form, along with a scanned copy of the Photo ID document. This Photo ID will serve as a future reference and aspirants must carry the same during their examination or personality test.
Documents Required for UPSC Mains Exam 2024
For candidates who clear the UPSC preliminary examination, the UPSC Mains exam is the next stage of the selection process. Once a candidate has qualified for the UPSC Mains exam, they will be shortlisted for the Mains exam after which they must apply for the exam again. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) releases a Mains notification along with the Detailed Application Form or DAF in short. The documents required for UPSC Mains exam are mentioned below:
- Matriculation or Secondary school leaving certificate as Proof of Age.
- All educational qualification certificates (Class Xth, XIIth, Graduation, or equivalent) awarded by the university or an equivalent qualification as recognized by the UPSC.
- EWS certificate (without EWS Annexure) (if applicable)
- Scanned documents/certificates in support of category (whichever is applicable) issued by the District Officer/Sub-divisional Officer/any other government-authorized officer to issue such certificates of the district in which the applicant’s parents reside. If the parents are deceased, then the district in which the applicant normally lives will apply.
- Certificate of disability (if applicable) issued by a Medical Board constituted by the Central or State government.
- NC-OBC status document in support of service/landholding/status/income from different sources/property held by applicant’s parents
- Certificate to prove domicile eligibility of North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya or Sikkim (if applicable)
- Certificate to prove domicile eligibility of Jammu & Kashmir
- Government servant undertaking certificates (if applicable)
- Disability while serving in defense certificate (if applicable) issued by the Director-General Resettlement, Ministry of Defence
- Certificate supporting age relaxation claim (if applicable).
Documents Required for UPSC Personality Test 2024
Candidates are eligible for the final UPSC CSE exam round, which is the Personality Test or Interview round with UPSC Board Members if they pass the Mains test with the necessary cut-off marks. During this stage, aspirants are also required to carry certain documents with them as physical evidence. The documents required for UPSC Personality Test are mentioned below:
Original Documents Required
- Matriculation certificate as proof of Name and Age. Carry a self-attested photocopy of the same.
- Degree certificate or Provisional Marksheet, in case the degree still needs to be issued by the university. Carry a self-attested photocopy of the same.
- Print-out of e-Summon Letter.
- Government-issued Photo ID card (uploaded at the time of Prelims registration).
- Two recent passport-size photographs, out of which one should be self-attested.
- Certificate for age relaxation, if applicable.
- Affidavit in case of any discrepancies in the name.
Additional Documents Required for SC/ST Candidates
- Caste certificate, original, and photocopy.
- Two copies of the TA Form along with proof of journey (for non-Delhi residents).
Additional Documents Required for PH Category Candidates
- Physically Handicapped Certificate: Original and photocopy. For the PH-I category, the DWE Certificate also should be brought. DWE is the Dominant Writing Extremity certificate (for candidates who claimed the extra 20 minutes per hour in the Mains written exam).
- Two copies of the TA Form along with proof of journey (for non-Delhi residents).
Additional Documents Required for Medical Examination
- 8-10 Passport-size photographs.
- Prescriptions or medical certificates, if any, may be helpful for an eye check-up.
