CBSE has commenced the correction of online application forms of the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) 2018. Corrections in the UGC NET 2018 application form can be made till May 1.
Earlier, the last date to apply for the exam was pushed back to April 12 and candidates can who were not able to complete their application can fill in all the details now. The registration process for UGC NET had started from March 6, 2018. The process was delayed by a day as earlier it was supposed to begin from March 5.
The exam is conducted for candidates who seek Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or Assitant Professorship after completing their master’s programme. UGC NET 2018 exam pattern has been revised and the upper age limit has also been relaxed. The exam will be conducted on July 8, 2018. Check important dates and revised pattern below.

Changes in UGC NET Exam Pattern:
According to the revised pattern of the UGC NET 2018, the exam will now comprise two papers instead of three papers. Until now, the UGC NET has three papers where the first two papers comprised 50 questions each and the third paper comprised 75 questions.
The Paper 1 of UGC NET 2018 will comprise questions from reasoning ability, divergent thinking, general awareness, comprehension. Whereas, the Paper 2 will be related to the subject chosen by the candidate. The exam duration for the first paper has been reduced from 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour. The paper will test the teaching abilities and approach of aspirants towards questions. On the other hand, in the second paper, candidates will have to complete 100 question in the span of two hours.

UGC NET Revised Age Criteria:
The age limit for the exam has also been changed in order to make it accessible to a larger number of candidates. Previously, candidates who were up to 28 years of age were eligible to apply for the exam, however, now candidates up to the age of 30 can apply for the UGC NET exam and avail the JRF. OBC, ST, SC and PwD candidates applying for JRF will get an additional a relaxation of 5 years at this upper age limit .
There will be no age limit for a candidate seeking Assitant Professorship. These candidates must have an aggregate of 55% marks in the Master’s degree programme in the subject chosen by the candidate passed from a recognized institute.

The UGC NET 2018 exam length and number of papers has been reduced in order to make the exam process less exhaustive for students. Candidates appearing for the exam used to find exam process very lengthy and were not able to perform as per their expectations in the three paper pattern. Therefore, the exam pattern has been changed to two paper.
