Semey Medical University, one of Kazakhstan’s top universities to study MBBS, was founded in 1953 with an initial enrollment of 320 students in the general medicine faculty. Currently, Semey Medical University is Kazakhstan’s one of the largest medical universities that has its own hospital and branches in Ust Kamenogorsk and Pavlodar. In the initial days, the university was called Semipalatinsk State Medical Institute. Semey State Medical University is currently known as the ‘Pearl of Healthcare’ of Kazakhstan. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recognised Semey State Medical University and the National Medical Commission (NMC). The university is also amongst the high-ranked MBBS universities in Kazakhstan and the world. The university stands currently at the 17th position in the country and 5059 in the world in the latest university rankings list released by Uni Rank.

Higher, postgraduate and supplementary education is provided by the Semey State Medical University in general medicine, pharmacy, nursing care, public health and stomatology. The duration of the courses offered at Semey State Medical University varies from 4 years to 7 years. The duration of the Doctorate of Medicine (MD) programme offered at Semey Medical University is 07 years, including 2 years of internship. The Semey State Medical University has a modern campus with excellent infrastructure and dormitory facilities.
