Artificial Intelligence is taking over Computer Science Engineering course which was the most popular option in IITs for over a decade. The change is essential to be relevant in the job market which is coming up with these technologies.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Courses in IITs Giving Tough Competition to Computer Science

For over a decade, the Computer Science Engineering (CSE) has been the top preference between the JEE Advance toppers for taking up admissions in the IITs all over India. However, from this year, a trend for new and emerging courses like Artificial Intelligence is giving tough competition to the CSE course admissions among the JEE Advance toppers. The new trend is seen this year as the AI course is introduced in Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Hyderabad . Students make long queues to get admissions in the B.Tech in Artifical Intelligence course in IITH.

For the Artificial Intelligence course, the JEE Advance rank for general category opened at 478 and closed at 657. However, the opening and the closing ranks were 1453 and 1601 respectively for female candidates.

The IIT Hyderabad’s associate professor of Computer Science Engineering, Prof. Vineeth N Balasubramanian said that while comparing the data between the admissions in CSE and AI courses, it is seen that the opening rank of AI course was 478 and for CSE, the closing rank was 613 which clearly shows that many toppers preferred Artificial Intelligence over CSE.

Currently, the Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Hyderabad is the only IIT among the 23 IITs pan India which runs a full 4 year UG B.Tech programme in Artificial Intelligence. Institutes like IIT Kharagpur and IIT Delhi has this course as a major or certificate/diploma level.
