According to the latest decision of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Joint CSIR UGC NET and UGC NET qualification are mandatory for MANF (Maulana Azad National Fellowship) for minority students. UGC has revised the guidelines and eligibility criterion for MANF and made NET score mandatory. The revised guidelines have also been sent to UGC to prepare the merit list for the awardees.
The revised guidelines indicate that qualifying Joint CSIR UGC NET/ UGC NET exam will be a prerequisite for the award of MANF for minority students applying for or enrolled in PhD and M.Phil. As per the notification, UGC will issue the MANF award to 1,000 candidates in the year 2018-19. According to the previous guidelines, NET was not mandatory for minority communities.

Since UGC NET and Joint CSR-UGC NET conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) have been made mandatory for MANF since the year 2018-19, no separate notification will be required, as per the minority affairs minister.
About MANF: -
- MANF is a scheme that provides financial assistance to minority students for pursuing M.Phil and PhD.
- The fellowship holders under MANF are often regarded as Ministry of Minority Affairs scholars.
- Through this scheme, students will be eligible for the post of lecturers in different academic institutions.
- Out of total fellowships, 30% is reserved for women candidates.
- If the 30% reserved fellowships for women candidates are not filled, the same will be offered to male candidates.

CBSE has confirmed that UGC NET 2020 exam will take place from June 15th to 20th, 2020. Some changes have been made to the examination scheme. As per the latest changes, now NTA will conduct the examination and the UGC NET 2020 exam will be conducted for three papers.
