A group of 1550 students at Vel Tech Institute in Chennai has made history by forming the world's largest human image of a wheelchair accessibility symbol. The event took place on 3rd December on the occasion of International Day for People with Disability, with an aim to raise awareness about the potential of the disabled, as it usually goes unnoticed.

More than 1500 students from Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology participated in the formation of the world’s largest human image to show that disabled people are an integral part of our society and that they should be treated with utmost dignity and their rights should be taken care of.

The event’s theme song was written by Madan Karky, was sung by Bhavatharani and Aravind and was composed by A.R Raihana. The idea behind the event was to create awareness about the disabled and how to treat them respectfully and avoid being patronising to them or showing pity.
The event saw the presence of many notable personalities such as Founder Chancellor & President of Vel Tech Col. Prof. Dr. Vel. R. Rangarajan, Vice Chancellor Dr. V. Ramachandran, VGP Group Chairman Dr. V.G. Santhosam and Foundress President Dr. Sangunthala Rangarajan.
Vel Tech Institute offers programmes in management, engineering, law, and media. It offers 10 UG, 19 PG programmes in engineering and technology, and also MBA with different specialisations. Doctorate programmes are also offered at the institute. Admission to the institute is done on the basis of the VTUEEE entrance examination.
