Looking at the increasing number of medical aspirants the Gujarat government has decided to increase seats in Medical colleges situated in Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara to have a total of 250 seats in the state.
While the giving the information Anil Mukim, Additional Chief Secretary (Medical Services & Medical Education) said, “The state government has already moved an application to increase medical seats in Surat, Vadodara and NHL Municipal College and even Post graduate seats in LG Medical College. NHL and LG are affiliated to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.”
“State Government has decided to increase the medical seats in the state by around 12 to 15 per cent annually. As a part of this policy the state has decided to increase the seats in Surat Medical College and Vadodara Medical college and even NHL Medical College in Ahmedabad to take the total number to 250,” he added.
Right now Surat Medical College has 150 seats, while Vadodara has 180 seats and NHL Municipal Corporation had 150 seats. After the increase there would be 270 odd seats in the state.
The state has also proposed to increase the seats in Post graduate seats in NHL and LG Municipal Colleges. NHL College has proposed to increase the seats in Super speciality from 18 seats to 27 seats. Similarly in LG Medical College has proposed to increase the post graduate seats from existing four to 58 seats, learnt from the sources.
