IIT Delhi to Offer BDes from 2022-23

IIT Delhi will be offering BDes from 2022-23. The 4-year programme will be offered by IIT's Design department, which has been there since 2017. The course will have 20 seats, to begin with, and students from any discipline (Arts, Science, Commerce) can apply for it.

Candidates interested in taking admission to this course will have to appear for UCEED and admission will be granted on the basis of the UCEED ranks. Since UCEED 2022 registration is underway, candidates can register themselves by visiting the official website (http://www.uceed.iitb.ac.in/2022/). Candidates can register for UCEED 2022 till October 10 (without paying a late fee). The application fee for UCEED 2022 for the general category is INR 3,500 and for the reserved category, it is INR 1750. The exam will be conducted on January 23.

IIT Delhi's Director, Prof V Ramgopal Rao said that they are delighted about offering this new course as this is the first time that IIT Delhi will be offering admission to undergraduate students for BDes other than Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. He further said that he is hopeful that students who pass out from the institute after pursuing BDes will take up leadership positions in academia, industry, government, entrepreneurship, consulting, etc. BDes and various other design courses, which are in the pipeline at IIT Delhi, will reduce the huge demand-supply gap of quality design professionals, which India really needs to succeed as a creative economy.

Talking about the new course,  Prof PV Madhusudhan Rao, Head, Department of Design at IIT Delhi, said that the course has been designed to provide high-quality education so that the students become industry-ready and are able to take on some of the challenges facing our country. IIT Delhi has been offering MDes since 1994.
