IIT-JEE: Number of Seats Vacant after 2nd Round Seat Allotment; No Update on Further Counselling Yet

IIT-JEE: Number of Seats Vacant after 2nd Round Seat Allotment; No Update on Further Counselling Yet

The counselling process for JEE Advanced 2017 has been halted by the Supreme Court and there is no update as of now on the same.

However, after the successful conduction of the two rounds of seat allotment conducted by JoSAA, 68 seats are vacant in the 23 IITs of the country. 131 seats were filled in the second round. Further, the entire statistics which were released by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) on 7th July 2017, there are a total of 10,298 seats that are up for grabs at the IITs, NITs, GFTIs, IIITs and ISM Dhanbad collectively.

Let's take a look at the number of seats filled by the following IITs or the Indian Institutes of Technology:

On commenting on the seat allocation at IIT Bombay, an official from the institute stated that only 14 seats were left to be filled at IIT-B before the commencement of the second round of counselling. He added that they were bound to be filled in the second round itself. All the 929 seats have been taken by engineering aspirants. Further, he stated that the academic session for the new batch of 2017-21 will begin on 20th July 2017 and the institute is waiting to welcome the freshers.

Last year in 2016, a total of 76 seats were vacant even after six rounds of counselling were conducted by JoSAA. It was pointed out the seats that were vacant then belonged to the newly established IITs of the country.

This year, JoSAA has planned to conduct a total of seven rounds of counselling to fill all the seats. The officials are hopefully that not even a single seat will go vacant in 2017.
