Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has decided to scrap the semester end exams due to the lockdown. The institute has decided to pass the students on the basis of special marking scheme which includes the score obtained by the candidates in the mid-term examination. As per the decision taken by the Institute officials, no final semester exam will be conducted and no students will be failed in the semester.

As informed by Abhay Karandhikar, the director of Institute, the final year students will also be provided with credit relaxation in their exam. He further added that to put an end to all the uncertainties, IIT Kanpur has decided to close the final semester for 2019-20. The students will be provided with the grades on the basis of their merit in midterm exams/ quiz/ assignments or any other evaluation metrics as decided by the directors on the online instruction basis.

As announced by the director on twitter, the special grading system will consist of only four grades, A, B, C and S; and no students will be failed in the exam. S grade will stand for a satisfactory grade. The final year students will also be provided special grade relaxation to help them complete their graduation in time. The grading of all the courses will be completed by June 30, 2020.
