Researchers at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur have achieved another milestone by developing a visual technology that will play a vital role in safer driving during rain. Researchers from Department of Electronics and Electrical Communication at IIT Kharagpur developed this technology. The technology will remove the real-time video, i.e., the obscuring effects of rain, and it will display on the windscreen of the vehicles to improve the clarity of driver’s view.
The technology developed by researchers has been named as ‘Real-Time Rain Removal from Video’. The technology provides Driver Assistance System (DAS). It uses video information to impart traffic-relation information. While the user is driving in the rain, the technology will give clarity video that will enable the drivers to drive safely.

The technology developed by these researchers has been patented internationally by the team with the name ‘Method and Apparatus for Detection and Removal of Rain from Videos utilizing Temporal and Spatiotemporal Properties’.
Developing technology and coming up with innovative ideas for the welfare of society is the key thing that IIT Kharagpur has been focusing on from the past few years. Researchers have developed technology and various devices in this fields but the technology developed by IIT Kharagpur is unique.

Today, many accidents also take place during the rain, as many drivers could not view the road or the vehicles properly. The technology developed by IIT Kharagpur will regulate the accidents during rain, and it will be highly beneficial for the drivers, as it enables safe driving. The technology can be used not only in cars but also trains, auto transportation and ships.
