IIT Placements 2024-25 Day 1 to 3: The 2024-25 placement season of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) started on December 1, 2024, and was a feather in the caps for all the campuses such as IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Kanpur.

The biggest draw for IIT Madras turned out to be Wall Street trading firm Jane Street’s record Rs 4.3 crore offer. The offer includes base salary, bonuses and relocation benefits and is the highest the institute has ever offered. Companies including Microsoft and Goldman Sachs, and firms such as BlackRock, and  Glean had other packages of more than Rs 2 crore and engaged actively in the recruitment process.

IIT Kharagpur too had a good show with more than 800 job offers made. Rs 2.14 crore stood as the highest package with 11 students getting job offers above Rs 1 crore and nine getting international placement. Apple, Google and Microsoft were the major recruiters with different roles, such as software development, finance and consulting.

On its first day alone, 579 job offers were made to students at IIT Kanpur as 523 students got placed through campus placements and Pre Placement Offers (PPOs). It’s interesting that 13 of its students secured international job offers from companies including Microsoft, Google and American Express.

Other IITs like IIT Bombay and IIT Guwahati will follow suit, if the season progresses, with competitive packages and strong employer interest. Overall, their reputation of producing top-notch talent continues to be solidified with these early reports suggesting robust beginnings as these premier institutes go about their placements.

• On Day 1, IIT Kharagpur garnered over 800 job offers including pre-placement offers (PPO’s).
• At IIT Kharagpur, the maximum annual package jumped to Rs 2.14 crore, while 9 students got above Rs 1 crore.
• IIT Kharagpur also had several major recruiters such as Apple, Google, Intel, Microsoft, and Capital One recruiting for software and analytics roles.
• The interviews were done hybrid, combining in-person and virtual interaction to be convenient.
• IT Mahadras registered a record Rs 4.3 crore package set by Jane Street for approvals which is the new term for placements.
• Other packages worth over Rs 2 crore from firms like BlackRock and Glean at IIT Madras were equally crucial.
• Prestigious companies such as Bajaj Auto, Goldman Sachs and Qualcomm were at IIT Madras on Day 1
• As of today, the average package at IIT Madras is around Rs 22 lakh per annum (LPA)
• Day 1 at IIT Kanpur saw 579 job offers made but only 523 positions filled through campus placements and PPOs
• Students from IIT Kanpur bagged a total of 13 international roles reflecting the global demand for their skills
• Among the companies recruiting at IIT Kanpur were Microsoft, Google and Texas Instruments.
• According to the overall response from recruiters across all IITs, the job market is recovering strongly after previous concerns.
• The placement season is expected to continue with more opportunities to come at other IIT campuses in the coming weeks.
