The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar has announced that they will be offering new specialisations in their postgraduate programmes of Engineering, meanwhile, a new course has been added to the undergraduate programmes offered by the Institute. As per sources, the college has introduced the courses to keep up with the changing situations in the world of technology.
Like many other Indian Institutes of Technology, IIT Ropar will also be offering postgraduate aspirants with an M.Tech Computer Science and Engineering specialisation in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The curriculum of the course will educate the students in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Math.
Along with AI, IIT Ropar will also offer more M.Tech specialisations in other fields of studies. The students who wish to pursue Civil Engineering will have a new specialisation, i.e. Water Resources and Environment Engineering. Meanwhile, the students who wish to pursue Electrical Engineering will be able to choose from two new courses, viz. Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) and Microelectronics.
IIT Ropar M.Tech AI and ML Eligibility Criteria 2019
The interested candidates must ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria for M.Tech AI and ML at IIT Ropar for 2019. The candidates will be required to have met the following criteria:
- Candidates with B.Tech or B.E in Computer Science or IT are eligible for the course
- Candidates are also eligible if they have completed their MCA or M.Sc Degree in the mentioned subjects
- The Candidates will also be required to have a valid GATE score as well.
For the students who wish to pursue an undergraduate course in engineering, they will be able to choose an interdisciplinary course of B.Tech in Mathematics an Computing. The course will be offered jointly with the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Stating on the launch of the new courses, the Director of IIT Ropar, Sarit Kumar Das says that the introduction of the new course in the undergraduate programmes was to introduce the students to the possibility of pursuing the specialisation in the postgraduate programmes. He further added that they do not want the students to focus on one subject alone at the undergraduate level.

Somitra Sanadhya, who is the head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering has stated that they have designed the curriculum for the new course in such a way that the undergraduates will be able to “provide a viable interface” that will bridge the gap between the industry and the academics.
