An additional number of top candidates are selected because their percentile is the same. For instance, in 2024, for the general category, 97351 were selected instead of the required 96187 because from 96188 to 97351, all candidates had the same percentile as that of 96187. It is done to ensure fairness for all candidates who got the same percentile.
