JNU or Jawaharlal Nehru University has witnessed a rise of 22% from the last year in the number of students applying for JNUEE 2020 (Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Examination). As per Jagdesh Kumar, the Vice-Chancellor of JNU, a record 1,35,462 applications have been received by the university indicating that students have embraced the transition to the computer-based mode of entrance exam wholeheartedly. The VC has further claimed that the registration process has also observed a rise in the representation of women and various social categories.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak in the nation, the university has adopted the method of online application this year. This is the second time in the history of JNU that the varsity is doing online applications in collaboration with the National Testing Agency (NTA) . Through a video clip released by the VC on Twitter, he made it clear that the varsity has received applications from all the states and Union Territories of the nation.
However, the statement made by the VC is in total contrast with a survey conducted by the teachers of the JNU. As per the survey, more than 40% of students are unable to access online education. Amid the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the university has recently announced that education would be imparted to the students through an online mode in order to help students complete their courses and avoid any academic loss. The survey also stated that over 97% of teachers did not receive any tech support from the university while conducting these online classes.
