KCET 2024: The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has conducted KCET 2024 Day 1 examination for Biology (Shift 1) and Mathematics (Shift 2). As per an analysis of the paper by PU College faculty members, at least 17 questions from Mathematics and 10 questions from Biology were asked from the deleted syllabus. Ideally, KCET has the same syllabus as that of the PUC examination: 30% from the 1st PUC and 70% from the 2nd PUC.
“I’ve seen question papers for 25 years, but never have I seen such a bad paper. Why are questions being given from the deleted syllabus?” A PU lecturer said, reported TOI. While the opinion on the actual number of out-of-syllabus questions is seen varying, it can be established that around 15 to 25% of the paper has been asked from completely deleted or partially deleted syllabi. It has ruined the peace of mind of many students who had no option but to either answer or leave the question. Many students stated that they had chosen to mark the answers for all such questions due to the lack of negative marking.

“When I first went through the paper, it was disturbing to see so many out-of-syllabus questions and it also discouraged me from preparing for Physics and Chemistry subjects. What if the same is again repeated?” A student who scored more than 97 percentile in JEE Main expressed.
Another student said, “It was shocking to see not 1 or 2 out-of-syllabus questions but 10, 15, and more.”
The Karnataka Unaided PU College Management Association (KUPMA) has filed a formal complaint against KEA regarding this issue, reported TOI, though details of it have so far not been made public. As per the analysis of KCET 2024 out-of-syllabus questions, such topics from Mathematics and Biology are listed below:
Mathematics: Plane, Binomial Coefficient, Mean Value Theorem, Angle Between Line and Plane, and Distance between Plane and Parabola.
Biology: Reproduction in Organisms, Strategies for Enhancement in Food Production, Organisms ans Population, The Ecosystem, and Environmental Issues.

However, responding to the outrage of students, KEA Executive Director, S Ramya, said, “If the candidates feel the questions were beyond what was taught, they can raise objections to the questions after the exams are over. They can submit their grievances and they will be examined accordingly. The objection link will be available on April 20.”
